It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce that Walter “David” Goins, age 59, a full-time resident of LaFollette, Tennessee, and part-year resident of Lucasville, Ohio departed this life. David passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, November 23, 2025. He left this world while at one of his favorite places, his cabin in Lucasville, Ohio. He was surrounded by family and friends.
David was born on September 22, 1966, in LaFollette, Tennessee. He was the beloved son of the late Walter D. Goins and Azlee Williams Goins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Jean Goins and his brother-in-law Patrick Smith. He was a Christian, saved by the grace of God. He could quote Bible scripture like few others. From a young age, David was known for his incredible work ethic and compassion. David lived a life marked by resilience, drive, integrity, humor, generosity and faith.
David was a graduate of Campbell County High School and completed advanced certifications at the Tennessee College of Advanced Technology. After graduation, his dynamic business skills quickly took shape. He co-founded and built a successful telecommunications business in the early nineties. He incorporated, worked and managed construction companies from 1990 through current date that performed work throughout the southeastern United States. One of his most successful ventures, DG Constructions, Inc., continues to operate in Campbell County and within the southeastern United States with an outstanding crew of concrete finishers. He recently delved into concrete production with the purchase of Dixie Concrete. David and his companies took pride in producing the highest quality work on Norris Lake. His work obtained national recognition resulting in contracts with the ATF in Tennessee and Arkansas.
Many people knew David as an area farmer. His skills included managing a herd of up to 300 beef cattle, producing and rolling hay and harvesting many different types of vegetables and crops. His knowledge and expertise helped guide his daughter Shakira in her FFA activities and in building a foundation to become a veterinarian. He taught Hunter how to work and manage a successful farm at a young age.
Outside of work, David found joy in deer and turkey hunting. He co-produced a series of hunting shows and videos titled “Hunting with the Judge.” He still carries the honor of killing one of the largest bucks in the state of Kansas. He especially loved hunting with his son Hunter Bo. David loved spending time with his cherished friends, Tim Ellison, Eli Riggs, Tye Bastian, Sean Bastian, Roger Parks and others. He spent time teaching and providing youth with successful hunting skills.
David was very gratuitous. He donated the concrete discus pad for the Campbell County High School Track Team. He made contributions to Campbell County sports teams and area 4-H programs.
Above all, David cherished his family. He looked forward to adventures with his family at the beach and traveling out west. He spent countless hours helping his children with shotgun and archery competitions and attending basketball, volleyball, golf and track events. David’s commitment to his children is unmatched.
David is survived by: his spouse of 31 years and best friend of 36 ½ years, Mary Michelle Gillum, Esquire; daughter Shakira Michelle Gillum Goins; son Hunter Bo David Gillum Goins; mother-in-law Mary F.
