Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Mr. N.L. Collins, age 78 of Oneida, TN passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Mr. Collins was a man of Christian faith who valued the biblical teachings of Binghamtown Baptist Church in Middlesboro, KY, which helped deepen his knowledge and understanding of the Bible. He proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, Tennessee Air National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserves. His military service took him overseas, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Korea.

Mr. Collins lived by the motto “Hard work builds character”. This was certainly evident during his 35-year career with CSX Railroad, retiring as a Signal Maintainer. He also owned and operated Dixie Auto Parts on Beech St. in LaFollette for many years, and was a former Logger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Nancy (Lay) Collins, brother, Ronnie Collins, and infant brother, Raymond Collins, Jr.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise Ray and husband, Jerry, and Selena Collins; son, Curtis Collins and wife, Starla; grandchildren, Kaitlin Sowder and husband, Thomas, Jared Ray and wife, Carrie, Joshua Collins, and Hannah Collins; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Charlotte Sowder; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will meet on Thursday, August 13, 2026, 11:00 AM at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Bakers Forge Cemetery for 12:00 PM Graveside Services and Interment with Military Honors to be conducted by the Honor Guard of Campbell County. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: Gateway Chirstian School, 1 Gateway Drive, Middlesboro, KY 40965. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. N.L. Collins.
