LAVONA MARIE PRESLEY GRAY

Knoxville resident for the last 10 years, formerly of LaFollette, TN

Preceded in death by father, Avery Presley, brother Rick Presley and wife Sandy, beloved nephew Brook Horne. Survivors: Edward Gray husband of 56 years, mother Edith Presley (age 103), sisters Brenda Horne (Doug), Rebecca Sumpter (Bill), brothers Jerry Presley (Doris), Larry Presley (Doris), brothers-in-law Gary Gray (Ruthie), Jerry Gray (Terry) and 13 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews who meant everything to her.

Mrs. Gray was born October 21, 1944 in Flat Woods, Virginia. She graduated from Lincoln Memorial University, then took courses at different colleges for certification and receiving her Masters in Education. She taught 30 years at Campbell County Comprehensive High School as a business teacher and was also a cheerleading sponsor. She loved teaching and called it her purpose in life. She kept up with her students throughout their lives and was so proud of them. Her main hobby in life was University of Tennessee sports, having season tickets in football, basketball, and baseball. The Grays donated 44 athletic scholarships over the years to UT athletes. She also loved the beaches and they frequented East Coast and Florida beaches on summer breaks and upon retiring, on and off all year long.

Mrs. Gray was a member of First Baptist Church of LaFollette, TN for 57 years.

Mr. Gray is extremely grateful for the professional loving care Lavona received at NHC and Hospice. Her struggle with her Parkinsons and with arthritis was closely monitored by UT Doctors Farris (48 years), Oculam, Stevens, and Tolson. Thank you to Martriea Pratt of Tennova Wound Care. And we cannot leave out the two years of personal care given by Eddie Baysinger. He stood tall and strong by our side. He has a God given talent. Thank you to special niece, Susan Horne for staying by our side the entire time.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28th, at First Baptist Church of LaFollette with receiving of friends from 11:00 to 1:00 PM with funeral at 1:00 PM by Dr. Bob Brown. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery of LaFollette, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of LaFollette.
