Mrs. Laquada Ann “Katie” Hughes, age 73 of the Duff Community passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026. She was a member of New Freedom Community Baptist Church and dearly loved camping, reading, and cooking. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Dean Hughes, parents, Elbert and Joie (Leach) Ayers, sister, Brenda Marlow, brother, Bruce Ayers, and infant brother and sister, Tommy and Joan Ayers.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Hughes and wife, Brenda; beloved grandchildren, Carmen, Jasper, and Lilia; sister, Alberta Powers and husband, R.L.; brothers, Jerome Ayers and wife, Geraldean, and David Ayers and wife, Carolyn; long-time dear friend, Pat Ray; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express a special thank you to UT Hospice, and nurses Delana and Olivia.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 8, 2026 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Walters Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Adam Gulley officiating. Family and friends will meet on Friday, October 9, 2026, 10:30 AM at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Peabody Cemetery for 11:00 AM Graveside Services and Interment.
