Mr. John Dwain “J.D.” Anderson passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the age of 67, following a courageous 10-year battle with cancer.
John was born on June 11, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, to the late Robert William and Georgia Marguerite (Hammett) Anderson. In the late 1960s, his family moved from Texas to Middlesboro, Kentucky.
John was a 1977 graduate of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Richmond. In 2002, he founded J.D. Anderson Contracting, an earthwork and construction company and proudly served the area until his retirement in April 2025. John took great pride in his career and received numerous professional accolades, including letters of recommendation from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
John had a generous heart and a deep faith. He was a devout Catholic who proudly gave both financially and of his time and labor toward the construction of his home church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in LaFollette.
A devoted Tennessee Volunteers fan, John proudly supported his beloved Vols and held season tickets for football, basketball, and baseball.
Above all, John was a proud husband, father, and “Papa Grumps” to his grandson. He was also an avid bourbon collector who enjoyed traveling, but one of his greatest joys was being behind the wheel of his boat, exploring the waters of Norris Lake.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Katherine (Norton) Anderson; his sons, Jonathon Anderson and wife Elizabeth, and Austin Anderson and wife Morgan; his beloved grandson, Collin Anderson; his brother, Clint Anderson and wife Janine; sisters-in-law, Pam Johnson and husband Bill, and Terri Valencia and husband Chris; along with several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who were too many to mention.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1142 E. Elm Street, LaFollette, TN 37766. A Memorial Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Father Sam Sturm officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center at www.mdanderson.org.
Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to serve the family of Mr. John Dwain Anderson.
