Mr. H. Maynard Pebley, born March 13, 1928 passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at the age of 96. Maynard enlisted into the US Army on May 29, 1946 in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA. During his service, he rose to the rank of Cpl. while being stationed in Japan with the 7th Calvery Division where he operated voice receiving and transmitting equipment.
Maynard dedicated his life to educating the youth of our area, beginning in a one room school in Claiborne County, concluding with teaching and serving as Principal of West LaFollette Elementary School.
Upon retirement from the school system, he went to work with Frontier Country Store where he was Manager for 10 years, and also enjoyed volunteering with the Campbell County Historical Society.
Maynard was also a lifelong cattle farmer where he still worked until his final few days.
Maynard was truly looked on as a community leader and upstanding citizen. He will always be remembered for his love, empathy, kindness, and keen wit. He was the Patriarch of our family and will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by Parents, Rachel and Charlie Pebley, 2 Brothers, 5 Sisters, Wife, Eurnestine Pebley, Daughter, Beverly Loy, and Son, Tommy Thomas.
He is survived by Daughter, Renee Thomas, Grandchildren, Derrick, Randa, and Tyler, Great-Grandchildren, Rachel, Harper, Hunter, Traelynn, and Axel, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Private Graveside Service was held at Fincastle Cemetery. To pay your respects, remember a time when he influenced your life. Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Mr. H. Maynard Pebley.
